Beauty trends to try from NYFW 2019

Every year, NYFW sets the tone for the year’s clothing, hair, and makeup trends. In 2019, shows were filled with looks that are easy to re-create from bejeweled hair and makeup to fiery monochromatic looks. Glitz and glam were definitely this year’s main focus; here are the beauty trends to try from NYFW 2019…

Go Glam

The first most noticeable trend came from designers such as Christian Siriano and Phillip Lim. These designers focused on incorporating elements including chains, sparkles, and jewels, not only into their fall collections, but also into hair and makeup.

Hairstylist Jawara Wauchope created “bodega crystal braids” worn models wearing crystals in their hair from a center part.

Maybelline artist Erin Parsons also had a similar focus for the looks she created, crystals and gems were actually applied to models’ faces. These looks may appear complex and glamorous at first glance, buy they can easily be incorporated into must beauty routines.

Seeing Red

Another popular beauty trend on the 2019 NYFW runways was monochromatic brick red.

Kate Spade led the trend with makeup artist Romy Soleimani from Maybelline creating monochromatic looks that varied in intensity across the face. From eyes, lips, to cheeks, the same color red was present in varying hues. Soleimani described the looks as “Rosewood,” using the main shade on the first half of the eyelid, then buffing out the outer corners of the eyes with rose-gold.

Tip: Soleimani used the Maybelline New York Burgundy Bar Palette to create the gorgeous looks on the models. Get yours here.

On the Low, Low

For the next trend, many of us have been ahead of the game for years already. ;-) Low ponytails, it’s your time to shine.

A look once deemed “messy” and low maintenance is now all the rage amongst designers. Oscar de la Renta, Siriano, and Cushnie featured this practical but gorgeous ‘do.

Most of the looks called upon sleek, shiny, and healthy looking hair that had bounce to it, but textures varied across the board as some designers — like Jonathan Simkhai — created a more messy feel.

Nailed It

Nails were also a big focus this year, as models rocked all kinds of styles, particularly metallic silver nails.

Rita Remark for Essie created color blocked nails for Siriano that were neat with a clean edge, while Kate Spade opted for a lighter coating with chunkier glitter embellishment. Nail looks were effortlessly feminine, but all clean and polished for a simple look that can absolutely be worn on a day to day basis. Do you dare?

Oh, eye do!

Last but definitely not least, eyeliner made its usual statement. Graphic eyeliner has claimed its place as a popular makeup trend, not just on the runway, but for everyday wear as well.

3.1 Phillip Lim featured a sharp white liner in the crease, and Anna Sui played with pops of color such as purple and turquoise for Proenza Schouler.

When trying these trends, keep in mind to have fun, experiment, and most importantly, wear them in a way that makes you feel the most comfortable and beautiful.

Makeup has no rules or boundaries, so play it up and see how you can recreate these looks in a unique way. Whether you throw jewels into your next eye look or try out a monochromatic makeup palette, you too can have your own NYFW 2019 moment at home or on the mean city streets.
