Can a lip gloss really help you lose weight? Like all things beauty, this one's in the eye of the beholder. Experts always say, "There's no quick fix." If there were, wouldn't we all be a size 2? Still, with a bunch of new lip products on the market that claim to help you drop weight with natural appetite suppressants like Hoodia Gordonii Extract, Kola Nut and Peppermint, the trend is worth exploring. And let's not forget that all-important placebo effect. Here's the skinny on these crave-controlling lip products.
The major weight-loss wonder in the trendy, sleekly packaged Purple Labs Huge Lips Skinny Hips Lip Gloss ($25)is Hoodia Gordonii Extract. Derived from a cactus-like plant in Africa, Hoodia is touted as an appetite suppressant because its molecules mimic the effect glucose has on the brain, sending it a message that you're full. However, nutritional experts say you need to ingest about 3,000mg of Hoodia per day to effectively suppress your appetite. The exact amount of Hoodia in one swipe of gloss just isn't something I can measure here in my lip lab. Nevertheless, this sweet-nothing lip gloss packs quite the plump and a hefty dose of hydration.
