A Sumptuous Getaway at Conrad
Indianapolis Hotel and Chakra Spa
On a beautifully warm spring weekend, my husband and
I spent treasured time enjoying everything Indianapolis
has to offer. We found a delightful city to walk around
and savor with many cultural and aesthetic attractions.
But the crown jewel of this Midwestern destination is
the Conrad
Indianapolis, one of the first three Conrads
in the United States and one of only twenty or so in
the world. In fact, Conrad is the Hilton Group’s
most luxurious, award winning, new brand.
 Conrad
Indianapolis is set in the heart of Downtown
Indianapolis. With a build out rumored to have cost
over one-hundred million dollars, Conrad
Indianapolis is opulently appointed featuring
furniture from Italy, carpeting from Ireland, and a
breathtaking chandelier in the lobby weighing 1,650
pounds. Fabricated in the Czech Republic and made from
624 components of Preciosa crushed glass, the chandelier
was crafted of the same glass used in the Presidential
Palace in Moscow. It’s these and other sumptuous
details that make Conrad
Indianapolis a work of art.
Representing all that a luxury hotel should be, our
stay here was perfect. Not only is the hotel magnificent,
but the friendliness, helpfulness and efficiency of
every member of the staff we met was unmatched. Our
dining experience at Vitesse, one of two gourmet restaurants
at Conrad
Indianapolis, uncovered wonderful food
that was creative and of the highest class, with the
accompanying unrivaled service that permeates the hotel.
An indoor swimming pool, work out and fitness center,
business center, plus over 10,000 square feet of meeting
space, are located within the hotel. The Capitol Grille
on the ground floor level has outside seating so guests
can enjoy dining al fresco when weather permits. During
inclement weather, the hotel’s enclosed skyway
connects to the indoor Circle Centre Mall, The Artsgarden,
and the Indiana Convention Center. It’s no surprise
that the Conrad
Indianapolis received an award for the
project that most enhanced the city in 2006.
For this spa connoisseur, the pièce de résistance
is found on the sixth floor of Conrad
Indianapolis, in an upscale retreat known
as Spa
Chakra.
Spa
Chakra continues the Conrad tradition of
excellence. It is part of a worldwide network of luxury
spas offering exclusive Guerlain therapies. In fact,
Spa
Chakra offers more than 60 beauty and health
therapies that nurture mind, body and spirit.
Entering Spa
Chakra, I was graciously welcomed by two
staff members and offered a cool glass of spring water.
It was my pleasure to book two spa services, the Guerlain
Imperiale Massage and the Spa Facial. Next, I was introduced
to the esthetician who would administer my facial. She
led me through the warmly lit halls of the spa where
soft music played complemented by the sensual scent
of aromatherapy.
 The
esthetician reinforced the culture of service instilled
in every staff member we met at Conrad
Indianapolis, as if one is the only person
in the world - for just a moment in time. She escorted
me to one of the treatment rooms where I was given a
gown to change into and a pair of soft slippers to embrace
my feet. After changing, I was taken to a treatment
room where I completed a Self Assessment Questionnaire
while being treated to a rejuvenating foot bath and
foot massage. The Self Assessment Questionnaire is an
essential first step in all treatments offered at Spa
Chakra. Developed to assess each guest's
lifestyle concerns and stressors, Spa
Chakra calls upon the results of this questionnaire
to customize treatments and therapies that benefit each
guest’s individual needs.
The 90 minute Spa Facial ($180) features Guerlain's
detoxifying and firming facial massage, a deep cleansing,
eyebrow shaping, eyelash and eyebrow tinting, exfoliation,
paraffin hand treatment, pore extractions, plus footbath
and foot massage. For me, the treatment was ultra-relaxing,
and the experience itself was surpassed only by the
results.
My next treatment, the Guerlain Imperiale Massage,
was given in the same room as the Spa Facial. What may
seem a small detail to some, illustrates the level of
excellence at Spa
Chakra. Without ever changing rooms, I
was treated to a continuous stream of relaxation and
indulged by staff members who made me feel as if their
only purpose on that day was catering to me.
The 90 minute Guerlain Imperiale Massage ($180) eliminated
tension and stress areas in my back and legs. Designed
to stimulate blood and lymphatic circulation, this massage
kneads muscles into complete bliss while detoxifying
the body and melting stress.
Sadly, after three hours, it was time to leave the
intoxicating magic of Spa
Chakra. I was given the results of my Self
Assessment Questionnaire along with home care advice.
A skin care regime and product recommendations were
also included, all in writing so that I could call upon
the expert advice of the Spa
Chakra staff at a moment’s notice.
The staff’s heartfelt goodbyes were as sincere
as their welcomes had been. I headed back to my room
to pack my bags, our weekend at Conrad
Indianapolis over, but not soon to be forgotten.
As Oscar Wilde once said, “I have simple tastes.
I am only satisfied with the best.” Wilde would
have found, as we did, that Conrad
Indianapolis is simply the best.
