'Mad Men,' 'Oz The Great And Powerful' Inspire Spring Beauty Trends

Published 4/12/13

It's no surprise that beauty and style trends are influenced by celebrity style icons. After all, years after her death, Marilyn Monroe is still inspiring everything from lipstick hues to jewelry collections. The latest beauty news involves a string of product launches inspired not by the celebrities themselves, but by the stories and characters in some of today's most popular television shows and movies. Here are two we love.

Mad for 'Mad Men'

Estee Lauder Mad Men Collection

Estée Lauder's newest Mad Men collection serves up lipstick, lacquer and blush inspired by the sixth season of the uber-popular AMC show.

The collection is limited edition, truly available only while supplies last, and was released in March, just in time for last week's season premiere.

We adore the lipstick in a new limited edition hue, Pinkadelic. Pinkadelic nails the perfect shade of retro pink and comes housed in a case and carton that are actual replicas of Estée Lauder's '60s-era packaging. Get it locally or at EsteeLauder.com for $30.

A light pink cream "See-Thru Blush" in Light Show is another must-have from the Mad Men collection. It comes nestled in a gold pouch and housed in a retro compact adorned with shades of turquoise, yellow and navy. Forget the product inside, which actually is a flattering shade of pink; the packaging alone makes this item worth the hefty price tag of $50.

All Megan Draper approved, of course!

Movie magic for your mani

OPI OZ collection

You don't have to go to the movies to appreciate OPI's "Oz the Great and Powerful" nail-lacquer collection, which includes some great nudes as well as sparkling top coats and a polish in OPI's new "Liquid Sand."

The collection offers three sparkling top coats (best for layering) — Lights of Emerald City, When Monkeys Fly! and Which is Witch? — as well as nude hues in shades of white, beige and pink, specifically Don't Burst My Bubble, Glints of Glinda and I Theodora You.

Lastly, there is Liquid Sand polish in a deep olive/bronze hue called, What Wizardry is This?. Inspired by James Franco's character in the movie, this shade of Liquid Sand dries to a matte, textured finish. And with a hue like this, there's no ignoring the man behind the curtain.
