The Gloss·a·ry: Lips that Sparkle, no matter the Season
Those getting glam will love to punch up their looks with some unseasonably sexy lip colors. I’ve made a list, checked it twice and here are my picks for festive colors that sparkle well into the New Year.
You can’t get any more glam than 24 karat gold, and Hollywood makeup artist Julie Hewitt is right on with her Lip Lush high-shine lip finish in Tish ($20), a glowing 24k shimmer. Like all of Hewitt’s lip products, Tish is made with Camellia oil, a beauty secret in China for centuries for its close resemblance to the oil in human skin, which provides a smooth, natural and moisturizing texture.
Now if you’re thinking red lips are the only ways to pout, check out Hewitt’s guide to selecting the best red for you www.juliehewett.net/whichredareyou.htm. She takes the guess work out of picking the right red, from sheer to matte, so even the palest of us is well covered.
Fun, functional and fashionable are the three Fs that make up the foundation of Velana K’s lip gloss collection ($20) – and I say she adds a fourth – as in formula.
The non-sticky, smooth texture glides on super-smooth thanks to a vitamin-packed base of A, C, hydrating shea butter, a moisturizing golden seaweed mix and collagen-inducing marine spheres. Plus, all of Velana K’s glosses come packed in fashionable on-the-go cases.
The Organic Pharmacy’s Organic Glam Creamy Lipstick in Red ($33.18) is totally free of artificial color, fragrance or preservatives, and instead infused with green tea, lemon, grape and vitamins A, C and E.
Considered one of the most respected and trusted organic beauty companies in the UK, The Organic Pharmacy has just landed stateside in Beverly Hills and is already racking up scores of celebrity fans like Demi Moore, Madonna, Gwyneth Paltrow, Sarah Jessica Parker, Reese Witherspoon, Beyonce and Katy Perry.
The company Yves Rocher actually grows its own plants in La Gacilly France where its beauty botanicals are harvested.
The brand’s Rose Magma Intense Gloss ($8.50 on sale from $17) is a ripe as a bing cherry. The color goes on like a rich lipstick with the shine of a slick gloss and gets its natural, nourishing benefits from Elemi gum resin, a fragrant honey-like substance derived from trees native to the Philippines that are often used in aromatherapy.
With 37 shades to choose from, The Body Shop’s new Colourglide Lip Color ($12.50) has a color for any season, occasion and skin tone.
The luxurious formula goes on silky smooth giving the lips a delicious wash of color that moisturizes and hydrates with sesame oil, marula oil and organic beeswax. Plus a dash of Tahitian gardenia gives lips a hint of flavor.
