Hair Dos (and Don’ts) for fall
Fall’s hair ‘dos are all about angles- think choppy bobs to blunt
bangs- and femininity, think pretty braids and tousled up dos on a bent.
Some looks are celebrity inspired; such as the signature Posh “Pob”
and others are modern takes on styles from days gone by. One thing is certain,
whatever ‘do you choose, don’t hesitate to experiment. Thankfully,
this season’s fun and funky styles are oh-so-wearable. The
Pob and the Bob Do go short for fall 2008 with looks such as “The
Pob,” the asymmetrical, edgy version of the traditional bob cut (named after
“Posh,” aka Victoria, Beckham) or the classic bob with a twist, think
Rihanna and her concave bob cut. The great thing about the bob is that it’s
a look that can be completely customized to suit your style and bone structure;
think straight and sleek or choppy and asymmetrical.
These shorter haircuts
also complement a range of hair colors from classic all over color to rocker chic
highlights. Plus, because these hip looks call for sheared locks, hair is bound
to stay healthier thanks to frequent trims.
Bangs
and fringe
Bangs are back and no matter your hair type or face shape,
the right kind of bangs can be rocked by all. Do pick a look that works for you,
as bangs are an easy way to give your current cut a quick update.
The traditional
blunt bangs draw attention to the eyes and work best on those with heart shape
faces or large foreheads. Angled bangs are flattering for those with round and
diamond shaped faces, and long, angled bangs are the only bang option we recommend
for women with curly hair.
Don’t opt for super short bangs à
la Natalie Portman, which is a look that only an occasional goddess can pull off.
And avoid “mall bangs” at all costs, those are super thick bangs,
circa 1980s, that begin much too far back on the head and are usually styled with
gallons of Aquanet. This look is no longer considered awesome.
Braids
Unlike the recent Hello Kitty revival, fall braids are sophisticated and ladylike,
more goddess than girl. And it’s not just girls-next-door sporting this
feminine look, braids have also gone haute couture after being sported on the
runways of designers such as Tracy Reese and Carmen Marc Valvo. Best of all, braids
work for all hairstyles and types. This fall, opt for a classic braid tied into
a chignon or leave locks long and flowing with a simple braid accenting just one
side of the face, as the original Gossip Girl Blake Lively did at a recent
premiere.
Side
swept ‘dos
Messy ponytails or tightly curled chignons have
one thing in common this season; they’re best worn a bit off center. This
isn’t the side ponytail of years past (that one was usually paired with
braces and bangs); this look is more bed head meets beauty queen. Do wear the
side swept style low on the head and don’t be afraid to mix your new side
‘do with the aforementioned braids for a look that is booth of-the-moment
and timeless.
