Gettin’
the “Nitty Gritty” with Kimberly Cole
We’ve
been secretly hoping for roller skating to return to
its early 1980s popularity. And thanks to Kimberly Cole,
a soon-to-be everywhere musician and champion roller
skater who performed in Jessica Simpson’s A
Public Affair video, that just may happen.
Recently signed by MySpace Records, Cole will
see her first EP, entitled Superstar, drop
on January 27, 2009 at digital retailers everywhere.
And while Cole describers her musical stylings as “pop-soul,”
after listening (again and again) to this charming newcomer’s
single Nitty Gritty, we’re calling it
simply contagious.
PrettyCity sat down with the talented and gorgeous
singer to talk beauty, natch!
Staying in shape is serious business when you’re
a champion roller-skater who trained at The Olympic
Training Center in Colorado Springs. Able to execute
a double axel on wheels, Cole explains that staying
active while having fun is her secret to sporting a
killer body, “I love taking dance classes, jogging,
eating balanced, and of course roller skating.”
As if to prove that Grandma’s beauty tips really
are classics, Cole swears that her best beauty secret
is simply getting plenty of rest. “There really
is something to be said about the term beauty sleep,”
explains Cole. “That is where everything starts!
I am at my best when I have gotten at least eight
hours of sleep.”
After
a good night sleep, this pretty pop star stays gorgeous
with the three grooming products she can’t live
without: mascara, lip gloss, and Bed Head’s
After-Party smoothing cream to control
fly aways while smoothing hair and imparting shine;

for Bed Head salon retailers.
Paired with a sizeable dose of confidence, Cole navigates
the sometimes catty red carpet with one simple style
secret, “Wear something that makes you feel sexy
and reflects your personal style.”
Asked about style snafus, the singer admits she’s
no stranger to beauty mishaps. “I have had my
fair share but the biggest one was when my hair broke
off when I went a little too blonde highlight crazy.”
Thankfully, Cole’s a full-fledged brunette now,
boasting long curly locks that are very un-Britney.
A chic choice that sets this pop star in the making
apart from the legion of bottled-blondes that she’ll
undoubtedly end up being compared to.
But unlike the others, staying true to her roots is
sure to keep this singer, songwriter and performer rolling
along the road to superstardom.
